About
My first camera was the Nikon F3 at age 11 or 12, given to me by my father. Ever since then, I fell in love with photography and the creative space it continues to provide to this day. My second camera was a Nikon Point-and-Shoot Zoom (film), which I absolutely loved, and took photos of everything as long as I was able to afford film and developing costs. I destroyed that wonderful camera at a water fall in Costa Rica and never really found another Point-and-Shoot with that kind of quality. In the early 2000’s, I switched over to digital with a Canon Rebel XTi then finally onto Canon 5D Mark III which I continue to use to today.
Night photography is my favorite. It requires mental sharpness, patience, and most importantly, a strong commitment to the craft. The creative process can be long, beginning with many hours (sometimes days) of location scouting prior to shooting to spending even more time processing and editing the images for the final look. Most night photography is done alone and at times it can feel quite raw out there in the dark by myself in weird hours when I should be in bed sleeping. Many times, I have gone ill-prepared and go hungry in the night or shivering in the cold or bracing my back for standing too long. The experience can be therapeutic when everything is stripped away of anything comforting and all there is just nature as it is and me in the dark picking up every senses. In one aspect, photography is just an excuse to be out there alone like that without looking like a complete lunatic.
My website is another way for me to connect with the world where I can house my images and share my stories however mundane they may seem to others. Long gone are my Geocities pages, Blogger space, and Facebook/Instagram is saturated with bullshit that I have come back to having my own space. Such is our life, once here and gone the next with resounding impermanence.
